Greek Yogurt Bagels!

This recipe came from skinnytaste!!!

Literally these are bagels only made with Greek yogurt and flour.  There are no added sugars!  I basically quadruple my recipe every time I make them because I will eat them throughout the week.  I refrigerate and freeze in increments I feel necessary.

You can make these gluten free with gluten free flour and you can make these with whole wheat flour but if you do you may have to add more or less flour.  If the dough is sticky keep adding flour, not sticky enough add a little Greek yogurt. Special note and a little science: Baking powder is to make bagels rise.  If you add too much flour you may need more baking powder.

The original recipe is

1 cup all purpose flour

2 tsp baking powder

¾ tsp kosher salt

1 cup non fat Greek yogurt (VERY IMPORTANT)

1 egg white

And I love to use Trader Joes Everything but the Bagel as my topping

With the original recipe these are nutritional facts:

Step 1

No judgment as I always forget this step, preheat oven to 450 degrees

Step 2

Mix flour, baking powder and salt then add Greek yogurt. Mix, mix, mix.

Step 3

When dough comes to a “ballish” shape turn it out onto floured surface.  Knead it.  If its sticky here’s where you add your extra flour or yogurt.  When the dough is no longer sticking its ready.

Step 4

Slice dough into quarters. Each quarter will be one bagel.  Unless your me and quadruple your recipe.  Then I quarter each quarter and each of those quarters becomes a bagel, got it?

Step 5

Roll quarters into snake like shape and then make it into a circle shape.  Or you can use a biscuit cutter and cut a hole in center.  I don’t like that way.  I like the snake shape.  I stick with that.

Step 6

I love silpats.  Nothing sticks and easy to clean.  If you don’t have silpats, order them from my link!  Ill receive a little cash and you won’t pay extra or you can use parchment paper.  I’ll even include a link for the one I like.  Put bagels spaced out on silpat lined baking sheet.  I also can’t live without my baking pans so Ill include a link to that as well.  Why not?

Step 7

I use my trusty pampered chef pastry brush and brush egg whites on bagels to give them a nice toasty look.  Then I sprinkle with my everything but the bagels.

Step 8

Realize you didn’t preheat oven.  Preheat oven.

Step 9

Bake Bagels for 25 minutes.

Step 10

Enjoy!!

*** I tried to boil these bagels once before I baked them.  It wasn’t hard to do but I felt it gave it more of a gummy consistency once baked. But you can do that before step 7. Boil water and drop bagels in until they float up and flip.  About 2 minutes on each side.
